Identifying Workplace Hazards (04:06)

Most jobs will provide you with appropriate safety training and supervision, as well as the correct protective equipment. You can help to keep yourself and others safe by following your organisation’s safety procedures, using safety equipment properly, and following procedures exactly in an emergency.

Stacking Shelves Safely (03:32)

Wherever you work, there’s a good chance items will be stacked on some sort of shelving. In all sorts of work environments, accidents can and do occur when stacking or de-stacking items from shelves, so it’s important to learn how to stack items on shelves safely to avoid accidents and damaging stock. This segment covers some basic safety considerations around the general stacking of shelves in an office or retail environment.

Moving Trolleys (04:07)

Collecting and moving shopping trolleys at shopping centres can be hazardous, as trolleys are often tied together using a strap attachment to return multiple trolleys to the store at one time. The use of these straps is hazardous and can result in serious injury. Before you move trolleys in this manner, you should receive specific, on-the-job training.

Slips, Trips and Falls (03:22)

Slippery and uneven floors in the workplace are a major hazard and can result in accidents causing serious injury or even death. A slip, trip or fall can cause you to injure your joints, arms, legs, back, neck or head. You may even can cause damage to your spinal cord and nervous system.

Fatigue (03:21)

Fatigue isn’t just feeling tired. It’s mental or physical exhaustion that reduces your ability to perform your tasks safely and effectively. Every organisation is affected by fatigue to some degree but some organisations have a higher risk of fatigue, especially those that include shift work.

Working Safely with Equipment and Tools (03:06)

You may need to use a variety of equipment and tools in your workplace. This may include sharp knives, scissors, tools and other specialised equipment. Your organisation should have procedures in place for using equipment and tools and it’s important you familiarise yourself with these procedures and follow them.

Cash handling in the workplace can pose a hazard. Both from a health perspective and a safety perspective.
